The 3 Places to Refill Rapid Fill Mugs at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and Kidani Village
If you plan a stay at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge or Kidani Village, you might have questions about Rapid Fill mugs. For starters, are they worth it? Then, you’ll want to know where and when you can refill them and your drink options.
Below, we have a photo of the current mug design for 2024. However, note that designs change from time to time. Sometimes, new designs are released for special celebrations, or seasonal options might be available during the holidays.
Are Rapid Fill Mugs Worth It?
Rapid Fill mugs allow you to enjoy refills of fountain drinks, coffee, and tea at any resort self-service for the entire length of your resort stay (up to 14 days). Guests can get a Rapid Fill mug one of two ways. You can purchase one, or they come with the Disney Dining Plans.
Here are a few quick need-to-knows that will help you decide whether or not they’re worth it.
- Cost of the Mug: $22.99
- You get to keep the souvenir mug.
- You can use them at any resort quick-service that has a self-service refill machine. It doesn’t matter where you’re staying. For example, if you stay at All-Star Music and visit the Boardwalk, you can refill your mug at the Boardwalk.
- You cannot use them in theme parks, water parks, or Disney Springs. However, you can refill one before you leave the resort and bring it with you.
How Rapid Fill Mugs Work
Upon arrival, you can pick up or purchase your mug at one of two locations. For Jambo House (the central portion of Animal Kingdom Lodge), you can purchase or pick up your refillable mug from The Mara, the quick-service restaurant on the resort’s lower level. (You can also place a mobile order for a mug at The Mara.)
If you’re staying at Kidani Village, you’ll need to purchase or pick up mugs from Johari Treasures, the resort’s gift shop off the lobby. For reference, Kidani Village is part of Disney’s Vacation Club in a separate building. Kidani Village does not have a formal quick-service restaurant, so its primary beverage station is inside the gift shop.
Rapid Fill mugs are usually near the checkout stand. If you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, the cast member will take your information and activate your mug, or you can purchase a mug, and they will activate it. The entire process only takes a few minutes.
Each mug has an RFID chip that is activated at the time of purchase. After activation, you can visit any resort beverage refill station. When you place the mug under the soda dispenser, you’ll typically hear a small magical tune that sounds like the waving of a wand. You’ll then be able to refill your mug.
However, don’t pull your mug away until you’re satisfied with the refill. When you remove your mug from the station, the chip resets and will not work for 2-3 minutes. This prevents guests from taking advantage of the system by turning around and filling extra cups.
In addition to sodas, most stations have a Gold Peak Tea dispenser with sweet, unsweetened, and green tea options. All soda stations have ice and water. Joffrey’s coffee is available in caffeinated and decaf.

It is essential to note that all of the refill stations at these specific resorts typically close by 10:00 p.m. or 11:00 p.m. each evening. After they close, there is no way to access them. For example, if you visit Magic Kingdom and stay late one evening, you won’t have the option to refill your mug upon return to the resort.
Most guests who will drink five or more sodas, coffees, or tea at the resort during their stay can easily justify the cost of the mug. For more information on Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, you might enjoy:

Thank you for the photos of the refillable drink station at Johari’s treasures. It’s very hard to find informatin on this location! I see a hot water dispenser next to the coffee, so does that mean there is hot tea and hot chocolate packets on the condiment stand? I am trying to zoom in and I can not tell. Thanks!
You are welcome. I will try to look next time I visit the resort. I know they have a dispenser for hot chocolate and teabags at The Mara. But you might have to ask a cast member for them at the gift shop. Tea and hot chocolate are both refillable drinks, and they are the only things I can think of that the hot water dispenser would be used for.
