Tropical Storm Milton Forecasted to Become a Hurricane By Mid-Week (Will Likely Affect Walt Disney World)
I don’t know about you, but we talk about the weather almost daily in our household. Unfortunately, it’s that time of the year: hurricane season. If you plan to visit Walt Disney World in the upcoming week, you could significantly be affected by the latest predicted weather event, Hurricane Milton. It would not be the first time this kind of storm system disrupted families traveling to the Most Magical Place on Earth for Fall break.
Here’s what we know on Saturday, October 5, 2024, as of 5:00 p.m.
- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in multiple counties, including Osceola and Orange Counties, where Walt Disney World is located.
- The National Hurricane Center has forecasted that Milton will likely quickly intensify as it moves across the Gulf of Mexico.
- Milton is expected to become at or near hurricane strength by mid-week and will likely cross central Florida.
- Areas of rain will begin to impact portions of Florida by Sunday and Monday, with heavy rainfall expected on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Hurricane conditions can cause significant damage, strong winds, and flooding, among other things.
Disney has a frequently asked question Hurricane policy page available on their website. Here is a brief overview of their policy. We’ve also linked to more FAQs on their website below.
If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area—or for your place of residence—within 7 days of your scheduled arrival date, you may reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Travel Company Disney Resort hotel packages and most room only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney. Most room-only and vacation packages can be modified, or cancelled online, including changes to travel dates.
If you have products and services provided by third-party suppliers included in your vacation—such as air transportation, hotels, car rental agencies or travel insurance companies—you will continue to be responsible for any non-refundable payments, as well as cancellation or change fees assessed by those suppliers. The policy does not apply to certain special events or dining experiences.
If you have questions, are unable to modify or cancel online or you need additional help rescheduling your vacation due to a hurricane warning, please call (407) 939-7675. Guests under 18 years of age must have parent or guardian permission to call.
