Toboggan Racers at Disney’s Blizzard Beach (A Downhill Mat Slide)
We’ll wrap up our coverage of the purple slopes at Disney’s Blizzard Beach with an overview of the Toboggan Racers. Those following along know that we’ve already covered the Snow Stormers (a mat slide) and the Downhill Double Dipper (an inner tube thrill slide), which also comprise the purple slopes section of Mount Gushmore. The Toboggan Racers are a downhill mat slide. Below, we’ll discuss what to expect with this attraction.
How Disney Water Parks Operate
It’s important to note that Disney’s water parks operate on a rotational schedule. Blizzard Beach is typically open between early November and March, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is open between March and November. You’ll want to check the exact hours and availability for your visit.
All three purple slope attractions are located near each other on the left-facing side of Mount Gushmore. The entrance to the Toboggan Racers is in the center of the slope.
The signage for this attraction reads:
Grab your mat and race down one of the side-by-side toboggan lanes on a high speed ride with dips and watery thrills.
For safety, you should be in good health and free from heart conditions, back or neck problems or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride. No infants.
Clothing with rivets, buckles, or exposed metal is not permitted. Glasses and loose jewelry should be removed.

Here’s a view of the Toboggan Racers from the top of the mountain. As you can see, it’s a fun (and fast) ride down.
The Tobban Racers have eight lanes. At the top, a cast member will have eight guests line up (or less when there’s no crowd) and then count down to the start. This is a mat attraction, so you’ll lay down on your belly facing straight forward. Like many other attractions at Blizzard Beach, it’s a race to the finish. You’ll hit a couple of dips that propel you further forward on the way down.
The Resorts Gal Spin on the Toboggan Racers
If you don’t mind sliding face-forward on your belly, we give the Toboggan Racers the green light. This is a fun slide, but it is pretty fast. However, you don’t have to worry about sliding off your mat like you might an inner tube. Since this attraction is highly visible, you can watch it a couple of times before deciding whether to ride it.
Resorts Gal Traffic Signals
Green Light
We give an attraction the green light if we consider it a must-do, regardless of the posted wait. We also give the green light for attractions we deem suitable to experience anytime. For example, some attractions have high capacities. Therefore, the lines continuously move and you shouldn’t have a long wait unless the attraction experiences downtime.
Red Light
We recommend checking the posted wait times for red light attractions. Then, make a quick judgment call on whether to wait, skip it, or return later. We also red light some attractions that we feel might not be suitable based on our experience.
Final Thoughts
As we’ve mentioned, the Toboggan Racers, like many other attractions at Blizzard Beach, are geared toward children, tweens, teens, and young adults. My son always preferred Blizzard Beach when he was younger because the attractions were more exciting. Many adults tend to prefer the laid-back vibe of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon.
