Don’t Miss These 3 Storm Slides at Typhoon Lagoon
Typhoon Lagoon’s Storm Slides offer the chance to take an adventurous and winding slide down the side of Mount Mayday. However, these slides are not nearly as intimidating as some other high-speed attractions at the park. Below, we’ll review the specifics for experiencing the Storm Slides on your next visit. Since they don’t have a height requirement, they are fun for almost everyone. But don’t let that fool you. They are still speedy and thrilling!
How Disney Water Parks Operate
It’s important to note that Disney’s water parks operate on a rotational schedule. Blizzard Beach is typically open between early November and March, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is open between March and November. You’ll want to check the exact hours and availability for your visit.
Since the Storm Slides are body slides, you won’t need to pick up a raft or inner tube to experience them. They are located on the right-hand side of Mount Mayday, immediately next to Humunga Kowabunga. Don’t worry. The Storm Slides are mild compared to their neighbor. They are so mild that even I will ride them. A wait time sign is typically posted near the attraction’s entrance.
The walk up to the top is relatively straightforward. You’ll encounter a few stairs followed by landings off and on the entire way up. If you’re not in a hurry, you can stick to the side and let the younger kids pass. There’s no need to wear yourself out before getting to the fun part.
The Storm Slides travel three stories down Mount Mayday in a fun, curvy way. You’ll slide through small caves and gentle waterfalls on your way down. You can choose from three unique slides once you reach the top:
- Jib Jammer
- Stern Burner
- Rudder Buster
At the top, a cast member will instruct you to sit down at the slide entrance. You’ll need to sit down feet first and lay back with your hands over your chest. Then, a red light will change to green, and it’s your turn to go. Here is a photo of the exit. The pool is 4′ deep at the exit, so you’ll need to be able to stand up or swim out of it on your own.
It always takes me a second or two to plant my feet firmly on the ground and make my way out of the pool. Overall, I prefer the Storm Slides over the inner tube slides. They are smooth on the way down, so you don’t have to worry about flipping out.
However, these slides are reasonably fast. Do not drag your feet to slow yourself down. Doing so will cause you pain. As always, we recommend wearing water park shoes. However, you cannot wear them while riding this attraction. A cast member reminds guests at the top to hold them or any sunglasses in their hands and fold them across their chest. Thankfully, most water park shoes have a strap across the top to help with this sort of thing.
Lastly, a waiting area is available at the bottom of the Storm Slides. It’s a good place to wait for those who don’t want to participate.
The Resorts Gal Spin on the Storm Slides
We give the Storm Slides the red light. While I enjoy these slides, they are pretty fast and not for everyone. I wouldn’t hesitate to try them if you have any interest. But if you have a fear of going under the water at the end, you might want to skip this one!
Resorts Gal Traffic Signals
Green Light
We give an attraction the green light if we consider it a must-do, regardless of the posted wait. We also give the green light for attractions we deem suitable to experience anytime. For example, some attractions have high capacities. Therefore, the lines continuously move and you shouldn’t have a long wait unless the attraction experiences downtime.
Red Light
We recommend checking the posted wait times for red light attractions. Then, make a quick judgment call on whether to wait, skip it, or return later. We also red light some attractions that we feel might not be suitable based on our experience.
