Runoff Rapids at Disney’s Blizzard Beach (A Trio of Inner Tube Water Slides)
Runoff Rapids is a water slide at Disney’s Blizzard Beach. Its entrance is at the top of Mt Gushmore on the Red Slope. The slide exits on the backside of the mountain near Cross Country Creek. It’s the sole attraction on the Red Slope.
Below, we’ll preview a few photos of Runoff Rapids and discuss what to expect. You’ll be able to choose from three unique slides. So, if you enjoy your first run, you’ll likely want to try the other two options. It’s a fun ride down the mountain that often results in a significant splash at the end!
How Disney Water Parks Operate
It’s important to note that Disney’s water parks operate on a rotational schedule. Blizzard Beach is typically open between early November and March, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is open between March and November. You’ll want to check the exact hours and availability for your visit.
Runoff Rapids does not have a height requirement. That said, guests must be able to carry their floats to the loading zone, sit upright, and hold onto both handles. In the past, guests had to carry their inner tubes up the mountain for this slide. However, a lift was added a few years back. Now, you can pick up your tube near the slide’s entrance. It’s a huge convenience.
To access Runoff Rapids, you’ll have a couple of options. The steps to the slide begin near the slide’s exit on the backside of Mt. Gushmore. If you take the lazy river, you’ll exit at Reindeer Landing. Then, you’ll climb a staircase to the top of the slide. As you can imagine, many guests used to skip this attraction because it was challenging to climb the stairs with the inner tube. Since you no longer have to take the inner tube, you can take the chairlift if you don’t want to climb the stairs. It exits at the Green Slopes, but the walkway extends to Runoff Rapids. Of course, the chairlift is at the front of the park. So it won’t be ideal to quickly get back to the top of the slide if you’re riding it multiple times.
Here is the inner tube for Runoff Rapids.
You’ll have three options when it’s your turn: the right, left, or center slide. The right and left side are similar. They snake their way down the mountain, passing over, under, and around the center slide. The center slide is a tunnel slide. It’s much more straightforward, but it will be almost entirely dark the entire way down. It’s a 600′ ride down the slope!
Here are a few photos of the outer slides.
All three slides exit into the same area at the mountain’s base. You can expect a big splash once you hit the pool.
The photo below shows how you remain in the tunnel the entire time on the center slide. You won’t be able to see much until the end.
The Resorts Gal Spin on Runoff Rapids
We give Runoff Rapids the green light. They are worth trying at least once. Not everyone enjoys inner tube slides, but these are fun, and we prefer them over the fall slides at Typhoon Lagoon.
Resorts Gal Traffic Signals
Green Light
We give an attraction the green light if we consider it a must-do, regardless of the posted wait. We also give the green light for attractions we deem suitable to experience anytime. For example, some attractions have high capacities. Therefore, the lines continuously move and you shouldn’t have a long wait unless the attraction experiences downtime.
Red Light
We recommend checking the posted wait times for red light attractions. Then, make a quick judgment call on whether to wait, skip it, or return later. We also red light some attractions that we feel might not be suitable based on our experience.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Runoff Rapids is a fun and thrilling slide, especially for the mild thrill-seekers in the family. This trio of slides is perfect for anyone who enjoys inner tubes. For more attractions at Disney’s Blizzard Beach, you might enjoy:
