How to Participate in a Paint by Numbers Mural at the Epcot International Festival of the Arts
Disney recently announced that the Paint by Numbers Mural would return to this year’s Epcot International Festival of the Arts. The mural was an instant hit when it debuted there a few years back. This activity allows guests to create a collaborative piece of art with other park-goers. Let’s face it. It’s not every day that you get to pick up a paintbrush and paint a wall in your favorite theme park.
For this article, I thought we would examine how to participate in case you’re interested in leaving your brush strokes on one of the temporary murals. During previous years, the murals created a distraction from the construction walls surrounding what is now World Celebration. Thankfully, those walls are gone. But you’ll still find the blank canvas erected in the same area along the walkway between the Imagination Pavilion and the World Showcase. Here is a photo of how it all begins. You can see the white mural is dotted with tiny squares. A number representing the square’s intended paint color is assigned to each one.
You’ll first need to pick up a number assignment, brush, and cup of paint at Expression Section. The booth, which is located near the mural, is open daily between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Here are a few guests picking up their complimentary paint and paintbrush.
On this particular day, a number of guests were waiting to leave their mark on the mural.
They were creating a mural with different representations of Figment, which was fitting given the proximity to his attraction and character meet-and-greet.

Here’s a closer look at an almost-finished section of the mural. Pretty cool, huh?
If you visit Epcot during the Festival of the Arts, you might want to claim a few squares on the mural yourself. This is a fun way to involve children, and you might be surprised to find that you have an artist in the family! Of course, this is only one of the many participation activities offered during the Festival. For more details, see our guide to the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. We also have a separate article that details ways to participate in chalk art during the festival. It includes another fun activity for those traveling with little ones.
