Mayday Falls at Typhoon Lagoon (An Inner Tube Water Slide Attraction)

Mayday Falls is a water slide attraction at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. It’s located toward the back of the park near Ketchakiddee Creek, the dedicated children’s area. More specifically, the slide sits between the park’s other two “fall” slides, Keelhaul Falls and Gangplank Falls. All the slides in this area are meant to be ridden with inner tubes or rafts.

Below, we’ll discuss the specifics of experiencing Mayday Falls on your next visit and preview a few photos. It’s important to point out that while none of the “fall” slides have a height requirement, they are not for everyone.

Disney notes that “Big kids, teens, and adults will enjoy the gritty thrills of this medium-wild ride that begins in the shadow of Miss Tilly, the shipwrecked shrimp boat atop Mount Mayday and the icon of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park. Swerve through caves, under bridges, and past thundering waterfalls—this one’s a rush!“

How Disney Water Parks Operate

It’s important to note that Disney’s water parks operate on a rotational schedule. Blizzard Beach is typically open between early November and March, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is open between March and November. You’ll want to check the exact hours and availability for your visit.

Mayday Falls is the longest waterslide at Typhoon Lagoon. The pool depth at the slide’s exit is 3’6″ (3 feet and 6 inches). Wait times are usually posted at the slide entrance. However, you’ll be able to see the line ahead of you and how fast it’s moving.

Mayday Falls is for single riders. Only one rider per tube is allowed. You’ll pick up a yellow inner tube at the slide’s exit, as shown in the picture below. (You’ll wait in this area until it’s your turn to grab a float. Before a rider exits the pool, they will push the inner tube under the rope fence to the next waiting guest.)

If you’re traveling with younger children, you’ll likely want to wait until you both have a tube before heading to the top. Once you reach the top, you can go down the slide ahead of them. That way, you are already at the bottom when they come along behind you.

On the way down, you’ll hit several bumps, pass through a cave, and fly under a bridge. You can wear water park shoes while riding this attraction. (Don’t forget them! They are an essential item.) This is an exceptionally fast slide. If you fear flipping out, my best tip is to relax and remain leaned back throughout the ride.

We give Mayday Falls the red light. Don’t get me wrong, I think they are worth the wait. But like the other slides in the park, they are not for everyone. The good news is that you can watch others ride the slide first and decide for yourself.

Green Light

We give an attraction the green light if we consider it a must-do, regardless of the posted wait. We also give the green light for attractions we deem suitable to experience anytime. For example, some attractions have high capacities. Therefore, the lines continuously move and you shouldn’t have a long wait unless the attraction experiences downtime.

Red Light

We recommend checking the posted wait times for red light attractions. Then, make a quick judgment call on whether to wait, skip it, or return later. We also red light some attractions that we feel might not be suitable based on our experience.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Mayday Falls is fun, especially for children and teens. As an adult, I’ve enjoyed this attraction several times. However, I find the Storm Slides on the opposite side of the park more my speed. That trio of slides are body slides, so there’s no fear of flipping out.
