‘The Little Mermaid–A Musical Adventure’ Opening Date Pushed Back to Summer 2025
You may remember that a new musical, The Little Mermaid–A Musical Adventure, was set to open this Fall at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Unfortunately, that opening has been pushed back to Summer 2025. Here’s what the Disney Parks Blog had to say about this delayed date in a recent update.
As we continue to look forward to “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios we are taking the next steps and filing permits for an all-new marquee. Work on the exterior of the building will begin soon, in preparation for the premiere of this fully reimagined show in summer 2025. We look forward to sharing more details on this exciting new experience soon.
This new musical is intended to replace the former Voyage of the Little Mermaid stage show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That offering closed in 2020, along with the rest of the park during the Covid shutdown. Unfortunately, it never reopened. This extension makes one wonder about the future of Animation Courtyard, which is home to the theater and a few other attractions like the Disney Junior Play and Dance!, Star Wars Launch Bay, and select character meet-and-greets.
You may remember Disney announced a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land will be coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That announcement was made at the 2024 D23 Ultimate Fan Event. You can read the complete list of announcements here to learn more. Many have speculated that Animation Courtyard could eventually become that new park area. Of course, at this time, Disney has not indicated where the new land will be constructed.
A new villains stage show is also expected to open next summer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That offering is supposed to come to the Sunset Showcase Stage building, the former home of Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. The racing academy closed on October 7, 2024.
Other news and announcements for today include a first wave of closures for Dinoland, USA, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and a lengthy refurbishment for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in 2025.
