These Disney World Attractions Are Closing in Early 2025! (Some Permanently)
Now that the holidays are over, we have the green light to plan our next Disney World vacation. We recently shared an article titled “9 Things to Look Forward to at Disney World in 2025.” For this article, I want to remind you of a few upcoming attraction closures, some of which will soon become obsolete.
This article was published on January 3, 2025, and contains time-sensitive information.
Magic Kingdom
Perhaps the most notable closure for 2025 is that of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a roller coaster attraction in Frontierland. The ride will undergo a significant refurbishment, including the addition of new elements.
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will temporarily close on January 6, 2025, for refurbishment. The attraction is expected to reopen in 2026.
- Astro Orbiter will close for refurbishment on January 12, 2025, and reopen in the summer of 2025.
- The Hall of Presidents will close for refurbishment beginning January 20, 2025, and is expected to reopen later in 2025.
The Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer’s Island are expected to close permanently to make way for a new area themed to Disney Pixar’s Cars. According to Disney, “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness, with two new attractions, including an off-road race. As of publishing time, no dates have been announced for the closure of these two attractions.
EPCOT
At Epcot, we’ll see two significant closures.
- Test Track closed earlier last year and will remain closed through late Summer 2025. Disney recently shared that Imagineering has been working with General Motors on an all-new storyline – you’ll want to be all buckled in for an adventure! The attraction will also have a brand-new entrance when it reopens.
- Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros will also close for refurbishment on January 6, 2025, and is expected to reopen in mid-March.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Significant changes are coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the not-so-distant future. We’ll have a few permanent farewells in the coming years, starting with TriceraTop Spin.
- TriceraTop Spin will close permanently on January 13, 2025, to make way for Tropical Americas, which will open in 2027 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
- This portion of Dinoland, U.S.A., will close on January 13, 2025, including Chester and Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures and Fossil Fuel Games. Other areas, including the DINOSAUR attraction, the Boneyard playground, and Restaurantosaurus, will remain open until further notice.
- It’s Tough to Be a Bug! This attraction, held in the Tree of Life theater, will permanently close at some point in 2025. No formal dates have been announced yet. A new attraction, Zootopia: Better Zoogether, will replace it later this year.
- Kali River Rapids closes annually during the colder months. It will temporarily close for refurbishment on January 6, 2025, and is expected to reopen in March 2025.
