Crush ‘n’ Gusher at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon (A Water Coaster Attraction)
Crush ‘n’ Gusher is one of the signature attractions for Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. It is part waterslide and part coaster. The attraction is themed to an abandoned fruit-processing plant. Riders can choose from three fruit chutes at the bottom of the ride. Once reaching the top, you’ll experience a 400′ long tunnel slide down the chute. Only this ride has lifts and dips, so be prepared as water jets propel you on the ride of a lifetime!
Below, we’ll discuss the details for experiencing Crush ‘n’ Gusher, its height requirement, and tips on the best time to ride. Most of you will not want to miss this thrilling attraction during your visit to Typhoon Lagoon. It is one of our family’s favorite rides!
How Disney Water Parks Operate
It’s important to note that Disney’s water parks operate on a rotational schedule. Blizzard Beach is typically open between early November and March, and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is open between March and November. You’ll want to check the exact hours and availability for your visit.
Crush ‘n’ Gusher is toward the front of Typhoon Lagoon. It’s the first attraction on the right, past the locker rooms. Miss Adventure Falls sits on the opposite side of it. This attraction is set up a little differently than most. You’ll first enter the queue under this yellow banner shown in the picture below. A wait time and height requirement checker are available near the entrance. This attraction has a 48″ height requirement, and the pool’s depth at the bottom of the slide is 3’6″. When you enter the queue, it will be difficult to tell how many guests are waiting. You might even encounter a line of guests waiting to retrieve floats in this area.
A warning sign outside the entrance reads:
Crush ‘n’ Gusher is a thrilling high-speed “water coaster” slide down a wash flume that includes sharp turns and sudden drops. For saftey, you should be in good health and free from heart conditions, back or neck problems, or other conditions that could be aggravated by this adventure. Expectant mothers should not ride. Persons who do not meet the minimum height requirement may not ride. Clothing with rivets, buckles, or exposed metal is not permitted. Glasses and loose jewelry should be removed. Pool depth at the bottom of slide is 3’6″. You should be a strong swimmer.
After you enter the queue, you’ll pass by the pool, where guests exit the ride. This is where you’ll need to pick up a raft. Rafts are available for single riders and double riders. If no rafts are available, you’ll have to wait for other guests to pass off their floats at the end.
You’ll then continue to the towering staircase. It’s a long way up. Here, you’ll get a better idea of how many guests are waiting.
Crush ‘n’ Gusher has three slides: the Pineapple Plunger, the Coconut Crusher, and the Banana Blaster.
Each sign indicates who can ride the specific slide. Double riders can go in any of the three lines, while single riders are stuck with the Coconut Crusher.
Okay, at this point, you’ll likely want to gauge the line for each slide. If possible, go with the shortest line. If you want to try a specific slide and it has a long line, you can always come back and ride it later. The only thing I don’t love about the ride is waiting on the stairs while carrying the rafts. Take your time, and don’t rush on the way up.
A cast member will tell you where to stand when you reach the top. Then, when it’s your turn, they’ll have you lay down your raft in the designated area. After positioning your raft on the belt at the top of the ride, you’ll turn and sit down in the raft sideways. Then, you’ll pivot your body and swing your legs around to face the front of the raft.
Don’t worry. You’ll be able to watch several guests go through the same procedure ahead of you. Signs are also posted with clear photos showing how to board the raft. So make sure everyone in your party is paying attention before you get to the loading area. After you board the raft, the light will turn green. The cast member will hit a button, and you’ll suddenly lunge forward into the 400′ long water coaster. The entire slide is one long tube. Water propellers carry you through the entire thing. It’s too much fun!
We love this attraction so much that we ride it multiple times throughout the day. Of course, the best time to ride Crush ‘n’ Gusher is within the first 30 minutes or so of the park opening or during the last hour of the park’s operation. Additionally, if you’re at the park during a thunderstorm, it’s the perfect place to go first after the storm passes.
Since Crush ‘n’ Gusher is next door to Miss Adventure Falls, we usually like to knock these rides out as early as possible. Often, we’ll do Miss Adventure Falls first and then head straight to the water coaster as soon as we’re finished. See our One-Day Touring Itinerary for Typhoon Lagoon for more details.
The Resorts Gal Spin on Crush ‘n’ Gusher
We give this attraction the green light, and wouldn’t miss it even if we had to wait for a while. However, if you have a fear of heights or don’t do well with stairs, you might give it the red light. It’s a long way up to the top! If you’re concerned you can always walk back to the staircase and check it out first.
Resorts Gal Traffic Signals
Green Light
We give an attraction the green light if we consider it a must-do, regardless of the posted wait. We also give the green light for attractions we deem suitable to experience anytime. For example, some attractions have high capacities. Therefore, the lines continuously move and you shouldn’t have a long wait unless the attraction experiences downtime.
Red Light
We recommend checking the posted wait times for red light attractions. Then, make a quick judgment call on whether to wait, skip it, or return later. We also red light some attractions that we feel might not be suitable based on our experience.
If you meet the height requirement and are even reasonably brave, you won’t want to miss Crush ‘n’ Gusher. It’s the best! For more water park attractions, you might enjoy:
