Disney Announces Special Celebration in Honor of Blizzard Beach’s 30th Anniversary

It’s hard to believe but Disney’s Blizzard Beach will celebrate it’s 30th anniversary this April. In honor of the milestone, the park will have a special celebration on April 1st. Per Disney, on that day, they will pay tribute to three decades of the water park’s history. Guests can expect a high-energy DJ spinning tunes on the pool deck near the Polar Pub, a special opportunity to interact with Mickey and Minnie Mouse who will be decked out in winter attire, and special character-themed tubes floating down the park’s lazy river, Cross Country Creek.
The announcement states that this celebration will continue throughout the month of April. Guests can expect dance parties, special anniversary food and beverage items, and more. You might even encounter a few family-friendly games that offer cool prizes like snowflake tattoos, wintery themed rubber ducks, and snowy bubbles. The Disney Parks Blog announcement isn’t clear on whether or not special characters will continue to meet throughout the month-long celebration.
As a reminder, before Covid the water parks were both open simultaneously, only closing for brief two-month refurbishment periods year round. Back then, both parks had regular character meet-and-greets available on the average day. It was common to find Goofy in his beach attire at Blizzard Beach, while Lilo and Stitch often rotated the character spot at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. It was a great time for water park fans. You could even park-hop between them with an upgraded ticket! And, if you don’t remember, the water parks were regularly open on hot summer days until at least 7:00 or 8:00 p.m.
We know that many of our readers have been hoping for an announcement that Disney would open both parks simultaneously this year. But that wasn’t the case. Here’s the official wording from the announcement.
And just when you’ve had more than enough wintery fun, we’ll transition to a more tropical splash when we reopen Typhoon Lagoon Water Park on May 1. Mark your calendars because the fun-under-the-sun at Typhoon Lagoon will be here before you know it.
