Baby Bakso, a Sumatran Tiger Cub, Debuts at Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Maharajah Jungle Trek
If you’re visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park in the upcoming months, you might have an opportunity to see a very special edition to the Maharajah Jungle Trek. Last September, a baby Sumatran tiger named Bakso was born to mom Sohni. A few months old, Bakso has reached the point where he’s able to join his mom in the special habitat provided by the park.
Disney has shared a few new images of the adorable mom with her growing cub. Since Sumatran tiger cubs need their mother’s care for some time (18-24 months) guests will likely be able to see the pair when visiting the Maharajah Jungle Trek, which is located in the Asia section of the park near the entrance of Kali River Rapids. Here are a few photos.
Disney notes that Bakso’s milestone was made possible by the unwavering commitment of their animal care experts who have worked tirelessly to care for the tiger cub. Sadly, less than 600 Sumatran tigers are left between the wild and managed care. For many, Bakso is considered a beacon of hope for the dwindling species. Disney partners with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and the Species Survival Plan (SSP) to help with the growing issues of endangered and threatened species populations.
Whether you’re new to the world of Disney or are a seasoned pro in search of a new adventure, their goal is to give you an experience like you’ve never had before. Check with our travel partner, Firefly Travels, to begin planning.
