Character Spotlight: Pluto at Walt Disney World

Pluto is a classic character at Walt Disney World. He is considered one of the Fab Five, which also includes Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy. Pluto makes regular appearances at Walt Disney World but is a little more challenging to meet than some of the other classic characters. Below, we’ll preview the places you might find him and photos of his different looks, specifically his dog tags.

Pluto made his cartoon debut in the animated short The Chain Gang in 1930. That same year, he was featured in The Picnic as Minnie’s dog, Rover. In 1931, he transitioned to being Mickey’s dog, Pluto, in an animated feature called The Moose Hunt. The D23 fan site has an older list of cartoons featuring Pluto.

Does Pluto have a regular character meet-and-greet at Walt Disney World? Yes, he meets at the following locations.

Character Dining with Pluto:

Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Harvest Feast at Garden Grill (Epcot)
Minnie’s Seasonal Dine at Hollywood and Vine (Hollywood Studios)
Chef Mickey’s (Disney’s Contemporary Resort)

Other Places We’ve Seen Pluto at Disney World:

Pluto sometimes makes appearances at the Disney Visa character meet-and-greet at Epcot. However, you must have a Disney Visa card to enter this meet-and-greet.
He is in the daily Festival of Fantasy Parade at Magic Kingdom.

Seasonal:

Pluto makes appearances in the Boo To You Parade during Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party.
He is at the beginning of Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
Pluto meets with Goofy (in rotation) at Jollywood Nights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
He meets with Mickey and Goofy at the American Adventure Pavilion on the 4th of July.

Timeline:

Pluto formerly met at the flagpole at Magic Kingdom’s Town Square. But we haven’t seen him at this location since 2018.
Pluto met in the Calliope Tent at Storybook Circus between 2018 and 2019.
In 2019, he moved to the circus tent at Pete’s Silly Sideshow, temporarily filling in for Minnie Mouse. (She moved to Town Square Theater to meet with Mickey for their 90th birthday.)
Pluto met at Epcot’s entrance for many years before the pandemic closure in 2020.
He was part of the Mickey and Friends Cavalcade at Magic Kingdom, the Mickey and Friends World Tour at Epcot, the Mickey and Friends Motorcade at Hollywood Studios, and the character cruises at Disney’s Animal Kingdom when social distancing protocols were in place.
When character meet-and-greets returned to the parks, Pluto returned to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Unfortunately, he has not returned to Magic Kingdom as a regular character.
Pluto rode in Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade during the park’s 50th anniversary.
He was part of the Disney100 Resort Character Caravan in 2023.
During Epcot’s reconstruction, he met at various places, including Epcot’s International Gateway, the gazebo near the World Showcase Plaza, and World Celebration Gardens. When the Mickey and Friends meet-and-greet opened in 2024, Pluto returned to his former meet-and-greet at Epcot’s main entrance.
Pluto returned to Donald’s Dino-Bash in early 2024. This meet-and-greet will likely close as the land is reimagined into a Tropical Americas-themed land.
