The Norway Pavilion Troll Topiary at Epcot (How It’s Changed Through the Years)

When I first began the job of sorting through photos for our Through the Years topiary series, I didn’t plan on including the Troll in the Norway Pavilion. First, our collection of photos is massive and it’s taken a long time to come up with a way to sort them that makes sense. Then, there was the great photo delete of 2021 when I lost a good deal of photos due to user error. Not to mention I created two Flower and Garden photo files last year, and in a haste to get organized, thought they were duplicates, which led to the deletion of several hundred photos. Who needs a troll when you’re working as hard against yourself as I am?
On a more serious note, when I was looking for a specific photo in an old 2019 file, I came across this one and immediately knew I had to include him. He’s changed so much through the years.

This topiary troll has been watching over the Norway Pavilion during Flower and Garden as long as I can remember. As you may know, trolls date back to early Norse mythology. If you’ve ever stepped inside the pavilion’s gift shop, you might have seen the giant wooden troll that stands on display. He’s heavily guarded by the pavilion’s cast members. Anyway, by 2021 we see that the troll has a completely new look.

Then, in 2023, we see another significant change. He’s lost his overall strap and his coloring has changed.

By 2024, his overall strap has returned and he’s sporting more of a cute, grown-in fuzzy look. I think we can all agree that he’s become a friendly troll over the years.

It’s always good to see him. If you’re visiting this year’s Flower and Garden Festival, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for him. You’ll also find Anna and Elsa’s character topiary nearby. For more about the festival, you might like to browse our guide below.
